On Friday July 19th the 8th Valentia Lecture will returned to the historic Cable Station with this years theme “ Transatlantic Relations – a beacon in a turbulent world “

We were joined Senator Jerry Buttimer, Cathaoirleach of Seanad Eireann who delivered a key note on the topic.

 

Also this year, in the spirit of Cyrus Field, who transformed the world when he led the transatlantic cable project in the late 1800s, we are included a panel discussion with Ireland’s future leaders in which they werel be asked to reflect on the Ireland of today and to share their vision for Ireland in 2040 and its place in a globally interconnected world.

 

On the panel was Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers, Shane Curran, former winner of the BT Young Scientist and Founder & CEO of Evervault, Dan Hobbs Cofounder & CEO of ProtexAI, Irish Olympian rower Monika Dukarska and actor Kwaku Fortune. The panel was moderated by Her Excellency, Nancy Smyth, the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland on her fourth and final visit to Valentia in her Ambassador role.

 

This year we again be hosted an online “link-up” with Hearts Content in Newfoundland Canada, which featured a greeting from each country’s Ambassadors and updates from both sides of the Atlantic on the emerging collaboration between the two communities.
